Duchenne Dash – helping to find a cure

Keyloop is honoured to support Duchenne UK and the Duchenne Dash: Around the World event.

CEO of Available Car and Keyloop customer, Michael Bell is taking part in this cycling event in summer 2021. Having broken his hip during the London Marathon in 2019 and subsequent hip surgeries, Michael chose to take on the next tough challenge of riding from London to Paris in 24 hours.

The funds raised will go towards ‘Chasing Connor’s Cure’ in support of Duchenne UK – an amazing charity which is trying to make a change to children affected by the condition.

Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is classed as a rare disease, with around 100 boys are born with DMD in the UK every year. Those with Duchenne usually appear healthy at birth, but often struggle to meet developmental milestones. The ability to walk is typically lost between 8-12, with a strong decrease in arm function generally occurring between age 10-16. Those with Duchenne are not expected to reach their 30th birthday, while complications can mean some don't even reach their 20th. For some this decline may occur sooner, while in rare cases some children with Duchenne may never walk at all.

Michael says: "I’m really excited to be taking part in these events and raising money for Chasing Connor’s Cure. Our team of 28 cyclists are taking part in the ‘Duchenne Dash: Around The World’ at Goodwood racetrack on 3 July. This involves completing the same distance as circumnavigating the globe – an incredible 40,000km which between us, we’ll need to complete in 12 hours!”
